NTU team invented self healing paint.

Singapore scientists have invented a self healing paint. When a surface with the paint applied is scratch, ultra small capsules in the paint breaks and coat the surface with a anti corrosion layer.

Cars, bridges, buildings will benefit from this once the product is commercialised as frequent or immediate repainting is not needed.

Success of the paint will probably depends on the application areas, in a car for example much depends on how well the break "heal", will a deep scratch heal as well as a shallow scratch. How much "scaring" is visible after the healing, given that a car needs to be cosmetically pleasing to most people.

Not sure about the social and economic impact of such a invention. However the idea could be a spin off to other greater inventions, like lipstick that heals, makeup that heals.
